Behold, two white 2017 Chevrolet Silverados, one with chrome, and one without.

PREACH!

I really want a short cab, long bed one of these.

I like the chrome better.

Impeach!

I’d take mine with black chrome, or a normal gloss black

I know it’s likely the angle but in the front facing pictures it looks like that lower valence is SUPER low, like barely any ground clearance.

And either one looks hideous if the lower strip of lights is the white LED’s instead of the amber lights.

Chevy desperately needs to drop the square wheel wells.

I don't like either one. Looks too derpy.

To be fair, the style and color of the mesh has a lot to do with it.

Its one thing if its actual chrome, but its always plastic with a chrome finish. Not the same.

How does it feel being wrong?
![]() 08/08/2016 at 15:33 |

I wouldn’t kick either out of bed.
Thanks to this scientific approach we have confirmed that pre-1997 factory chrome is perfectly acceptable.

I dunno. Ask yourself.

This. Its the same with Ford. Both trucks look incredible with no chrome, and look awful with it.

Agreed

I think the larger point is that the Silverado is just fugly, and chrome makes it worse.
but I think “peak chrome” has passed again. it went away in the ‘90s, then came back, and is starting to go away again. Even Harley’s popular current models are blacking everything out.

Question: Why does Chevy not bother to paint the B pillar in they trucks? It looks really cheap and these trucks can cost $50k+.
Also, Can I take mine with the chrome bumper and painted grille?

I'll never forget Bob Lutz quipping about 10 years ago that chrome was a cheap, easy way to get more money out of people. Seriously, people — raccoons and crows fall for this. We are better...I think.

I like the chrome actually, what I don’t like is the plastic air dam on the bottom of the bumper.
First thing I would do would be to remove it, even if I do lose those two precious mpgs as a result.

it’s not paint on the F-150, they’re plastic trim pieces. the one on the front door is so they can mount the keypad, and the one on the rear door is there to match.

But it looks better than just body color, and they have them in the versions without keypad too.
And RAM does it too.
